The Living is Easy in Kauai

What’s the perfect day in your life?  Is it holding a cocktail with a little umbrella in it while lounging on a beach?  Or maybe it’s hiking through terrain that’s straight out of Jurassic Park.  Perhaps you prefer catching some of the world’s best waves on your surfboard.  Or, do you simply want to sit in an open-air restaurant while being pampered with gourmet cuisine?

Rather than keep listing your potential daydreams, it’s easier to just say that Kauai is an island that has something for everyone.  Life is good, and the living is easy.

Kauai Was Born out of the Ocean

Kauai Living is EasyThere are hundreds of islands in in the Hawaiian archipelago, but there are eight major ones to visit.  With over 560 square miles, the island of Kauai is the fourth largest of the bunch, and it also happens to be the oldest.  Many say it’s the most beautiful, but that’s something that can’t be scientifically proven.  However, we’ll let you in on a little secret and tell you that it’s true.

Beach Activities

Kauai SurfingWhen most people think of Hawaii, they think of the beach.  There’s a reason for that, and it’s because the beaches are amazing.

If you’re hobby is surfing, there are tons of waves for you to catch.  But, don’t worry if you grew up surrounded by land.  There are plenty of beaches for beginners to try out, too.  Hanalei Bay is a great place for people of all skill levels because the natural barriers give a wide variety of waves.

To have a more relaxed day, then grab your snorkel and get ready to hang out with the sea creatures.  The island is surrounded by amazing coastlines, and there are plenty of reefs that make calm environments to help you get into this unknown world.  Also, it’s really helpful being on the island year round because the winter months offer the best snorkeling conditions.

Hanalei Bay KauaiIf you want a little of everything, then head to Poipu Beach on the South Shore.  You may just catch glimpses of humpback whales, sea turtles, or even the endangered Hawaiian monk seal (just make sure to keep a safe distances from these).  Also, this area is fairly built up because of the resorts around, so there is plenty of civilization to keep you supplied.

The Great Outdoors

Poipu Kauai BeachOn the other hand, there’s a lot more to Kauai than just sand and surf.  It’s a paradise for anyone wanting to feel like the star of an adventure story, and it fits the part so well that it’s a filming location for a lot of Hollywood blockbusters.

One of the best ways to really get to know the island is by taking a hike.  There are short walks for a lazy afternoon, and some tough treks for a longer adventure.  The Nā Pali Coast State Park is an amazing park on the North Shore, and its major highlight is the spectacular cliffs that drop straight into the ocean surf.

The Weather is Perfect

Well, the weather in Kauai isn’t perfect, but it’s about as close as it gets anywhere on Earth.  It hardly ever drops below 60° Fahrenheit, and it doesn’t usually get much hotter and 85°.

Food, Food, and More Food

The Hawaiian cuisine is delicious, and Kauai is littered with restaurants cooking it up at all levels of quality and price.  However, the best way to taste it is at a local party.  It won’t take you very long to realize how warm and welcoming the Hawaiian people are, and you’re bound to get invited to a beach party or luau sooner or later.  You’ll realize how laid back and fun these events are, and you’ll stuff yourself between relaxing and lounging around.  The food is guaranteed to never run out!

Unique Culture

Luau KauaiThis island kingdom in the South Pacific has a culture that’s known far and wide.  Not only does it have fascinating history and mythology, but there are many cultural traditions that are kept alive today.  One of the most famous is the luau, and these are a party that originated in the 1800s when the laws were changed and men and women were allowed to start eating together.  Now the word has become synonymous with “party,” so people are always looking for another excuse to throw a luau.  Be ready to eat, and warm up your hula moves!

That’s Just the Beginning

This information is just a glimpse into life in Kauai.  It doesn’t even mention the friendly people, the diverse wildlife, the unique golf courses, or so many other things.  So whether you’re looking for a nice vacation spot or a new home, keep in mind that the living is easy in Kauai.
