Kauai’s World Famous Kapaa Bike Path

The island of Kauai is a glorious place to spend time, and homeowners often feel like they’ve purchased a little bit of paradise. But it isn’t just about snorkeling and fine dining on sandy beaches, there are a lot of everyday activities that simply become more enjoyable. Walking the dog or going for a leisurely bike ride are activities that are generally pleasant, but they become even better when they have a beautiful view.

There’s an incredible bike path that goes a significant distance around the edge of Kauai, and it’s an easy way for anyone to experience the natural beauty for a few hours or a whole day. Wouldn’t you love to be able to live right next to this beautiful bike path?

Kauai Bike Paths

There haven’t always been bike paths going around the island of Kauai, but it looks like we’re going to have plenty of them the future. There’s a community organization that is attempting to make sure everyone has access to non-motorized paths that are free to use. They try to preserve and protect the walking areas that area already in place, and they hope to make an even more extensive network.

After all, what’s the point of living on the Garden Island if you don’t have a safe, convenient, and beautiful place to go for a stroll whenever you feel like it?

A Work in Progress

There’s currently a plan to have a large path cover much of the eastern side of the island, but the section next to our housing development contains a 4.1-mile section that has already been completed. Overall, this side of the island has six planned phases of which two are already finished, and it’s hopeful that the other sections will be ready sometime in the next few years. Since the exact layout isn’t yet planned for some of the later stages, it’s too early to say how much distance it will cover, but it will surely add many more miles to the path.

Also, there are similar projects on the other sides of the island, so there could come a day in the future when there is a path all the way around!

Allowed on the Kauai Bike Paths

Another piece of good news about these bike paths is that they don’t have a lot of restrictions on who can use them. Basically, the only thing that you can’t do is drive motorized vehicles along them.

It’s obviously open to walkers and runners, and these people are allowed to bring their dogs with them if they’d like. The path is also popular for cyclists, but it’s not the only type of wheels that make use of it. Since the path is nicely paved, it’s also popular among people on roller blades and skateboards, and families can easily push baby strollers.

Benefits of the Path

There are plenty of reasons while people enjoy making use of this path. One nice part is that it’s free and open for everyone, so it’s a nice spot to go for a stroll and see some other smiling faces. Also, there are benches and pavilions along the way, so it’s very easy to bring a picnic lunch and eat with a nice view of the oceans. Or, if you don’t feel like bringing food, there are a few restaurants where you can stop. That’s also really convenient if you’re using the path to go running or some other type of exercise, because you can stop for something to drink to rehydrate after you’re finished.

While you’re doing all of this, you may even spot some sea creatures out in the ocean, or see any of the other natural wildlife that live on the island.

Environmentally Friendly

Another benefit of this path is that it’s easy to go quite far while on a bike, walking, or using some other self-powered form of transportation. This is a bit of a luxury when getting around Kauai because the distances usually require spending some time in the car to get where you want to go. The gorgeous scenery makes the drives significantly better than other places on the planet, but it doesn’t compare to being out in the fresh air.

There’s No Place Like Home

This particular path is surely a treasure of the island, but it isn’t the only reason to live in Kauai. It’s also full of lush mountains, great beaches for surfing and swimming, an amazing coastline to hike on, amazing restaurants, and many more picture-perfect experiences.

But, imagine the feeling of waking up in the morning and just stepping out onto the Kapaa Bike Path. Our housing development sits right next to it, so we can help you turn that dream into a reality.
